Week 2 saw the unfortunate conclusion of Trey Lance’s season. According to head coach Kyle Shanahan, the 49ers quarterback shattered his ankle against the Seahawks, necessitating season-ending surgery. Lance was replaced by Jimmy Garoppolo, who helped San Francisco defeat Seattle by a score of 27-7. After the game, Shanahan stated, “It’s awful for him. We were really hoping to see a lot of him this year and we’re truly sad for him. So, to watch him suffer that horrible of an injury to where he can’t come back from it, you feel for him”. After suffering the injury in the first quarter, Lance was taken off the field wearing an air cast on his right leg. Prior to leaving the game, Lance gained 13 running yards and completed 2 of 3 throws for 30 yards. Lance sustained the injury after being thrown to the ground while attempting an option run up the middle. His injury hasn’t received an official medical diagnosis yet.
