Terry McLaurin met with the media for the first time on Wednesday after agreeing to a hefty three-year contract extension with the Washington Commanders, a decision that, while obvious in retrospect, didn’t feel certain to those standing outside the office at the time. However, McLaurin had confidence in the decision. Hesaid, “Honestly, I felt confident. It was very clear that they wanted me to be here, and I wanted to be here. From talking to my agent, Buddy Baker, to the talks I’ve had with coach Ron Rivera, I knew that they wanted me.” According to Rivera, extending McLaurin’s contract was a top goal for Washington. Rivera said, “I believe one of the things that we were able to do was take care of one of our captains, take care of one of the players who means an awful lot for one side of the football and for the club as a whole.” McLaurin was away from his team even during the mandatory minicamp.
