On Thursday night, a seventh-round rookie made the greatest play in an AFC West matchup full of playmakers. After trailing the whole game, the Kansas City Chiefs finally seized the lead when cornerback Jaylen Watson intercepted a pass from Justin Herbert and returned it 99 yards for the game-winning score in a 27-24 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday Night Football. After the game, Watson remarked, “The ball simply wound up in my chest and I brought it home. It was a bizarre sensation, just very glad and lucky to be in this situation. I didn’t even know what to do when I got in the end zone, so everyone saw me just standing there.” Watson, a Washington State product who was selected 243rd overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, got the start on Thursday for the defending AFC West champions and, in the eighth quarter of his professional career, gave one of the biggest moments of the early season. Andy Reid, the head coach, added that it was a significant play.
