In Washington, the quarterback position will be filled by a well-known name while Carson Wentz is recuperating from surgery. Taylor Heinicke will get the ball against the Green Bay Packers in Week 7 according to the announcement made by Commanders head coach Ron Rivera on Tuesday. Heinicke will make his first start of the 2022 campaign on Sunday against the Packers, with rookie QB Sam Howell serving as his backup. Rivera claimed that despite Howell’s impressive preseason performance, he did not think about starting him. He could later have a change of heart. Taylor now provides us the best chance to succeed, according to Rivera. “We think he’s on pace,” Rivera added. The Commanders said on Monday that Wentz had successful surgery in Los Angeles for his shattered ring finger. Wentz would need 4-6 weeks to recuperate, according to NFL Network Insider. The team will decide whether to put Wentz on injured reserve later this week, according to Rivera.
