Following a concussion in Week 4, quarterback Brian Hoyer for the Patriots is on injured reserve, according to NFL Network Insider on Thursday. Hoyer took over at quarterback for the injured Mac Jones against Green Bay, but he was eliminated from the game after only 15 plays after taking a hit from the Packers’ Rashan Gary late in the first quarter. Third-string quarterback Bailey Zappe took over for Hoyer and completed the OT defeat. Hoyer, 36, has played for the Patriots three times, starting in 2009. He completed 5 of 6 throws for 37 yards against the Packers in his first game of the year. Hoyer now has a minimum four-week absence. Jones kept his hopes of getting the start against the Detroit Lions on Sunday alive by returning to practice on a limited basis on Wednesday and Thursday. On the final play of the Week 3 defeat to the Baltimore Ravens, he had sustained an ankle injury.
