The Lions’ all-time leader in passing efficiency is still Matthew Stafford, although he no longer wears the team’s jersey. Stafford, who made the No. 9 jersey famous in Detroit from 2009 through 2020, has a new job: rookie receiver Jameson Williams. The Alabama product contacted Stafford before formally changing his number on Wednesday. Williams texted Stafford as a courtesy before switching to a single-digit number since she was looking for one. Williams wore No. 1 during his one season at Alabama and No. 6 during his career at Ohio State before that. Expectations for a first-round pick will increase as he turns back toward a single number in Detroit. Williams remained silent on the subject since he hasn’t been practicing since tearing his ACL during the College Football Playoff National Championship. But we have no doubt that he will shortly voice his thoughts.
