When Barry Sanders was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2004, he became a legend for all time. In the city where he spent all 10 seasons of his illustrious career, the former Lions running back will soon get a comparable accolade. Sanders’ legacy will be forever preserved in the Motor City by a statue at Ford Field during the 2023 season, the Detroit Lions said on Sunday. The news was released during the second half of Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins. The Sanders monument will be unveiled by the Lions before the 2023 season begins. According to Lions owner Sheila Ford Hamp, “We share the news that we will commemorate the greatest running back in football history with a monument in the city we represent with incredible pleasure. Here in Detroit, Barry’s legacy will be felt now and forever.”
