Ron Rivera, the head coach of the Washington Commanders, fined defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio $100,000 on Friday for remarks he made earlier in the week equating the disturbance at the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021, to the rioting that followed George Floyd’s passing in 2020. Del Rio was forced to apologize after the Commanders said they thought his remarks unacceptable.
Ed Reed, an NFL Hall of Famer, expressed his opinion on Twitter after hearing about the fine imposed on Del Rio, claiming it was an unfair punishment. “I’m sick and exhausted right now! 100,000 is insufficient; to a person who is recycled through coaching, money is nothing” on Saturday morning, Reed tweeted. “There is always one; first it was Saban, and now it is Jack to just serve as a reminder. Man, put your trousers on if he is your coach! Simply said, there is Right and Wrong.”
