Collin Johnson tore his Achilles, according to the New York Giants. Johnson was thus put on season-ending injured reserve. Alex Bachman, another Giants receiver, departed practice early due to a toe injury; it’s unclear how he will fare.
The loss of Johnson was somewhat mitigated by Sterling Shepard’s return to practice on Wednesday after recovering from his own Achilles ailment. By taking ex-Ravens WR Jaylon Moore off of waivers, the Giants also expanded their room for wide receivers.
Johnson was second on the club in receptions (10) and receiving yards (123) so far this preseason. The third-year wideout had been having a solid camp and was expected to play this season. Johnson caught 11 catches for 105 yards and often played on special teams in 12 games (one start) for the Giants last season. Shepard contributed on the field as well, hauling in 36 catches for 366 yards.
