Blake Martinez, a former inside linebacker for the Green Bay Packers and New York Giants, has been added to the practice squad of the Las Vegas Raiders. Just before the season began, Martinez was released by the Giants in a fairly unexpected turn of events. Martinez participated in the 2022 preseason but was only able to play in three games in 2021 due to an ACL injury.
Martinez’s restricted season brought to an end a run of four straight seasons in which he recorded 140 or more tackles. In terms of yards allowed and points surrendered, Las Vegas’ defense is presently 22nd in the NFL. Although outside linebackers Jayon Brown and Divine Deablo have struggled, middle linebacker Denzel Perryman has been reliable. However, on Sunday, he sustained a concussion. Martinez, who recently visited the Baltimore Ravens, has the experience and track record of racking up tackles that may potentially help the Raiders’ linebacking group.
