Week 3 Betting Preview: Miami Dolphins vs. Dallas Cowboys

Miami is a big road underdog here and is currently receiving three touchdowns from bookmakers. Vegas has set the over/under (O/U) at 47.5 points, and there should be some good in-game betting opportunities in this matchup.

Betting odds have moved slightly from when they were initially set. The opening line was -17 and the game’s over/under was set originally at 47.

The Dolphins are down 1.0 unit so far and 0-2 against the spread (ATS). The team’s recorded an Over-Under mark of 1-1.

The Cowboys have gained 2.0 units this season. The team is 2-0 ATS and has an O/U record of 2-0.

The Dolphins have gone just 0-2 straight up (SU) in 2019 while the Cowboys are 2-0 SU.

The Dolphins came up short to New England 43-0 in a Week 2 blowout where the passing game could’ve been better as the Dolphins completed 18-of-39 passes for 186 yards and four interceptions. Ryan Fitzpatrick went 11-for-21 for 89 yards and three interceptions while Josh Rosen completed seven-of-18 for 97 yards and one interception. Kenyan Drake (just 19 rushing yards on six attempts) led the ground attack while Drake (five receptions, 29 yards) and Preston Williams (four catches, 63 yards) handled the receiving duties in the defeat.

Dallas just earned a 31-21 win over Washington a week ago. Dak Prescott completed 26-of-30 passes for 269 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Ezekiel Elliott (111 yards on 23 rush attempts, one TD) and the signal-caller Prescott (69 yards on five carries) led the running game while Michael Gallup (six receptions, 68 yards) and Randall Cobb (five catches, 24 yards) led the pass-catching attack in the win.

Miami has run the ball on 27.6 percent of its offensive possessions this year while Dallas has a rush percentage of 50.8 percent. The Dolphins have produced 31.5 rush yards/game and have yet to record a score on the ground this year. The Cowboys are totaling 151 rushing yards per game and have two total rush TDs.

If the numbers so far this season can translate to this game, then it’s looking like the Cowboys should hold an edge in the trenches. Their offensive line has allowed only one sacks while the D-line has logged two sacks. The Dolphins offensive line has allowed 10 sacks and their defense has recorded only three sacks.

The Dolphins offense has tallied 188 yards/contest through the air overall and has only one passing score so far. The Cowboys have recorded an astonishing 337 pass yards per contest and have seven total pass TDs.

Defensively, Miami has allowed opponents to rush for an average of 195.5 yards and pass for 321.5 yards per game. The Dallas defense has allowed 272 yards per game to opposing passers and 99.0 yards per game to opposing runners. The Cowboys are allowing an adjusted net yards per pass attempt (ANY/A) of 6.75 to opposing QBs, while the Dolphins have given up an ugly 13.91 ANY/A.

Prescott probably has the edge over Fitzpatrick in this one. The Cowboys man under center has an adjusted net yards per pass attempt 8.90 for the year and 12.08 over his last two outings while Fitzpatrick’s ANY/A is -2.76 and 1.54 over his last two.
