Vancouver Canucks at New Jersey Devils Odds

Vancouver is 4-2 straight up (SU) and has netted 2.8 units for moneyline bettors this season. That winning percentage, the third-best in the Pacific Division so far in this young season, is a welcomed improvement over the 35-47 record from the 2018-19 season campaign. Through six regular season matches, three of its games have gone under the total, while two have gone over and just one has pushed. As the road team this season, the Nucks are 1-2 SU.

The Canucks have converted on 16.7 percent of their power play chances so far. That mark hasn’t moved a lot from last season, when they were ranked 22nd in the league by converting on 17.1 percent of their extra-man opportunities. Their penalty kill has gotten stronger year-over-year, as they’ve gone from successfully defending 81.1 percent of all opponent power plays (ranked 10th overall last year) to 95.0 percent this year..

Sporting a .926 save percentage and 28.3 saves per game, Jacob Markstrom (2-2) has been the top option in goal for Vancouver this season. If head coach Travis Green decides to rest him, however, the team may roll with Thatcher Demko (2-0), who has a .938 save percentage and 1.92 goals against average this year.

New Jersey is 1-6 straight up (SU) and has already lost 5.8 units for moneyline bettors this year. Through seven regular season outings, five of its games have gone over the total, while two have gone under and none have pushed. It’s 1-3 SU as the home team this year.

The Devils have killed off an impressive 66.7 percent of all penalties, a few points lower than the 84.4 percent they posted a year ago (when they were ranked fourth overall). They have scored on 4.0 percent of their power plays this year after converting on 17.6 percent (ranked 21st in league) last season.

The winless Cory Schneider (26.5 saves per game) has been the top choice in the crease for the Devils. Schneider has zero wins, four losses, and one OT loss and has maintained a fairly-weak .876 save percentage and 4.08 goals against average this year.
