Dallas Stars at Detroit Red Wings Odds

Dallas (-150) is currently the favorite over Detroit (+130) and the oddsmakers have set the Over/Under (O/U) at an even 6 goals. The line for betting that total stands at -105 money on the over and -115 for the under.

Dallas is 5-4 straight up (SU) and has lost 0.3 units for moneyline bettors this year. That early-season SU winning percentage isn’t too far off from to what the team posted during the 2017-18 season (42-40). Four of its contests have gone over the total, while another four have gone under and just one has pushed. The Stars are 0-2 SU as an away team in 2018-19.

Dallas has found the net on 29.6 percent of its power play opportunities so far. That’s a noticeable step forward from last year, when it was ranked 19th in the NHL by scoring on 19.3 percent of its extra-man advantages. Its penalty kill has also gotten stronger year-over-year, as the team has gone from successfully defending 80.9 percent of opponents’ power plays (ranked 13th overall last season) to 84.0 percent this year.

Dallas, as a collective unit, has been sent to the penalty box 4.0 times per game this season. Last year, that number was the fourth-highest mark in the league at 4.2 penalties per game. After serving an average of 10.1 penalty minutes per game a year ago, the team’s had to kill penalties for 9.0 minutes per outing this season.

Sporting a .923 save percentage and 27.4 saves per game, Ben Bishop (4-3) has been the top option in goal for Dallas this season. If head coach Jim Montgomery chooses to rest him, however, the team might roll with Anton Khudobin (1-1), who has a .898 save percentage and 3.02 goals against average this year.

Tyler Seguin and Alexander Radulov will both lead the way for the visiting Stars. Seguin (11 points) is up to three goals and eight assists this season; Radulov has four goals and six assists to his name through the early stages of the regular season.

On the other side of the rink, Detroit is 1-9 straight up (SU) and has already lost 7.3 units for moneyline bettors thus far. Through 10 regular season outings, five of its games have gone over the total, while another five have gone under and none have pushed. So far this year, the team’s 0-4 SU at home.

Detroit has converted on 25.0 percent of its power play opportunities this season, a mark that’s right around league average. On the other hand, its penalty kill is ranked 14th overall, and it’s successfully killed off 80.5 percent of all opponent power plays.

Detroit players have been penalized 5.2 times per game this season, a number that has climbed noticeably from the 3.7 penalties per game given up last year. After serving an average of 9.0 penalty minutes per game a year ago, the team’s had to kill penalties for a whopping 12.5 minutes per outing this season.

Jimmy Howard has denied 30.3 shots per game as the primary selection in goal for Detroit. Howard has one win, seven losses, and two OT losses to his credit and has registered a .913 save percentage and 3.07 goals against average this year.

Dylan Larkin (four goals, three assists) and Gustav Nyquist (one goals, six assists) will pace the attack for Detroit.
