Euro 2016 Quarterfinals

Thursday, June 30th (All Times Eastern)

Portugal vs. Poland – 3:00 pm (ESPN 2)

Portugal is a slight favorite as they take on Poland in the first quarterfinal game on Thursday on ESPN 2. Portugal tightened up on defense in the Round of 16 to get past Croatia while Poland has been great defensively in every game. They have only given up one goal in Euro 2016. Portugal has the top scorer in the world in Ronaldo but Poland has more depth in scoring as they have Arkadiusz Milik along with Lewndowski who has yet to do anything in France. “We don’t have a single problem with the fact that Robert Lewandowski hasn’t scored so far.” Poland coach Adam Nawalka said, “He’s doing a great job for our side. We are a team that understands each other very well and knows that what’s good for the team is the most important thing.”

3 Way: Portugal +125, Poland +300, Draw +190

Spread: Portugal -1/2 +125, Poland +1/2 -145

Total: 2 under -130

ATS Stats

These teams have met ten times previously with Portugal winning four times, Poland winning three times with three draws. They last met in a 2012 friendly that ended in a scoreless draw.

Euro 2016 Picks

I am really surprised Portugal played so well defensively against Croatia and I just don’t see it happening again so I will take this game over the total.

Friday, July 1st (All Times Eastern)

Belgium vs. Wales – 3:00 pm (ESPN 2)

Belgium is favored as they take on Wales in the Euro 2016 quarterfinals on ESPN 2. Belgium finally looked like the second team in the FIFA rankings as they routed Hungary 4-0 in the Round of 16. Wales is coming off a tough 1-0 win over Northern Ireland. “We were edgy going into the Northern Ireland game as we were expected to win and we work better as the underdog,” Wales manager Chris Coleman said. “We have proved that and people will expect Belgium to win. They had some criticism coming into the tournament and they lost the first game. But if you have a squad with that quality then any team you play against, apart from maybe two of three, Belgium are favorites.” These teams have met three times recently in the 2014 World Cup and in Euro 2016 qualifying and two of the three meetings ended in draws.

3 Way: Belgium -130, Wales +460, Draw +240

Spread: Belgium -1/2 -130, Wales +1/2 +110

Total: 2 over -123

ATS Stats

These teams have met ten times previously with Belgium winning four times, Wales winning three times with three draws. They met late last year in qualifying and it was Wales winning 1-0.

None of the last four meetings in this series have seen more than two goals scored so I will take this game under the total.
