Denver Broncos

The Denver Broncos begin the 2016 season as defending Super Bowl champions but not many people believe the team will repeat.  In fact, it might be tough just for Denver to finish with a winning record considering they lost quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler in the off-season and star linebacker Von Miller is not happy with his current contract.  The Broncos still have a strong running game and the defense will once again be good but the team is counting on Mark Sanchez or rookie Paxton Lynch at quarterback.  It doesn’t help that Denver plays a tough schedule in 2016 including games against Carolina, Indianapolis, Cincinnati and New England.

2016 Denver Broncos Offense

The Broncos still have some offensive talent with C.J. Anderson in the backfield along with wide receivers Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders but it is hard to trust either Sanchez or Lynch at quarterback.  Another issue is the offensive line as the team is counting on Russell Okung at left tackle.  Okung was once a very good NFL tackle but those days are long since past. It should be noted that the Broncos were not a great offensive team a year ago as they finished just 19th in points per game but it is hard to see them matching that number this season which is bad news because the defense appears weaker.

2016 Denver Broncos Defense

The Denver Broncos dominated on defense last season and it was the defense that won them a lot of games including the Super Bowl.  Von Miller had a great season but he went into 2016 without a long term contract and he was threatening to hold out.  The front three is nothing special so the Broncos simply have to keep Miller happy and in the lineup if they are to have any real chance to succeed this season.  He teamed with DeMarcus Ware to wreck havoc on opposing offenses last season. The Broncos have a good secondary led by Aqib Talib but again, the pressure produced by Miller and Ware made the secondary look really good.

Denver Broncos Picks

The Broncos won a lot of games a year ago thanks to their defense. It is hard to see them doing the same thing in 2016 and it is really hard to envision Denver winning the AFC West with either Sanchez or Lynch at quarterback.  Not many teams go from winning a Super Bowl to a losing record but that is a possibility for the Broncos this season.  Going under the total of 9.5 is the way to go with this team.
