Chicago Bears Betting
The Chicago Bears went through a radical identity change last season as Marc Trestman took over from head coach from Lovie Smith. It was an interesting, although not that successful season for Trestman and the Chicago Bears.
The Chicago Bears were a strong defensive oriented club under Smith that had an offense that was a perpetual source of frustration. Under Trestman the offense showed dramatic improvement but the defense was rendered virtually helpless. The Chicago Bears went from a 10-6 team in Smith’s final year to an 8-8 team in Trestman’s first season.
Chicago last made the playoffs in 2010 and that has been their only appearance since 2006.
2014 Chicago Bears Super Bowl Odds: 29-1
2014 Season Win Total: 8.5 (over -145)
2014 Chicago Bears Offense: The Chicago Bears had one of the top offenses in the league a year ago as they averaged 27.8 points per game. Quarterback Jay Cutler played well and his backup Josh McCown was excellent. In fact, McCown was so good that he now has the starting job in Tampa Bay. If anything happens to Cutler this season the Bears are done as they don’t have a quality backup. And keep in mind that Cutler hasn’t played a full season since 2009. The weapons at Cutler’s disposal are excellent as he has two outstanding receivers in Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffrery and he has one of the top backs in football behind him in Matt Forte.
2014 Chicago Bears Defense: The Chicago Bears defense was nothing short of a mess last season. If not for the sickening defense of the Dallas Cowboys, this unit might have been the worst in the NFL. The team did make some moves on the defensive line but bringing in an aging Jared Allen isn’t anything special. The team also added Lamarr Houston, Willie Young and Trevor Scott but they lost Julius Peppers and Corey Wootton. The linebackers were terrible because Lance Briggs was hurt. He is back but he is now 34 years old. The team took Kyle Fuller in the NFL Draft and he will help out Tim Jennings and the overrated Charles Tillman. Overall the defense will be improved but that is not saying much.
Chicago Bears Additions: The team added WR Domenik Hixon, WR Josh Morgan, C Brian De La Puente, DE Jared Allen, DE Lamarr Houston, DE Willie Young, DE Trevor Scott, OLB Jordan Senn, S Adrian Wilson, S M.D. Jennings, S Ryan Mundy and S Danny McCray. They took Kyle Fuller and E. Ferguson with their first two NFL Draft picks.
Chicago Bears Offseason Losses: The team lost QB Josh McCown, RB Michael Bush, WR Earl Bennett, DE Julius Peppers, DE Corey Wootton, DT Henry Melton, OLB James Anderson, CB Zackary Bowman, S Major Wright, P Adam Podlesh and KR Devin Hester.

Too Many Questions: The fall of the Bears defense was stunning but perhaps it should not have been as the unit has been aging. Trestman will now have to try and find solutions to shore up that side of the ball and keep his offense humming.
By the Numbers: The Bears have paid out in just 5 out of their last 16 games as a favorite with 15 out of their last 20 games as a chalk going over the total. The Bears have come away with the cash in just 5 out of their last 20 games as a dog with just 7 out of their last 17 games as a pup going under the total.
