NASCAR Odds: The Sprint Cup Series heads to Michigan International Speedway on Sunday for the FireKeepers Casino 400 that can be seen on FS1. The racing at Michigan in recent years has seen a lot of long green flag runs where fuel mileage plays a big role in determining the winner. Last year it was Kurt Busch winning this race while two years ago it was Jimmie Johnson. The top contenders to win on Sunday are Kevin Harvick, Matt Kenseth, Martin Truex Jr. and Carl Edwards.
Here is a look at Sunday’s race and NASCAR predictions.
Kevin Harvick 7-1
Harvick has been really good at Michigan in the past six races with five top five finishes but he somehow doesn’t get the win. He has finished second in five of the last six races at Michigan.
Matt Kenseth 8-1
Kenseth was fourth in this race a year ago and then he won the fall race at Michigan. He has five top 15 finishes in six starts at Michigan with Joe Gibbs Racing.
Martin Truex Jr. 8-1
It didn’t go well last week at Pocono for Truex Jr. but he is having a very good season and he finished third in both races at Michigan last season.
Carl Edwards 9-1
The best active driver at Michigan is Edwards who has 16 top 10 finishes and he has a 9.67 average finish in 23 starts. He finished 12th and 6th last year in the two races.
Others to Consider
Joey Logano has been excellent at Michigan with top 10 finishes in nine of his fourteen races. He is definitely capable of winning this week. Brad Keselowski leads all drivers in average finish in the last ten races at Michigan so he can’t be ignored. You can’t ever forget about Jimmie Johnson although he hasn’t been that great at Michigan even though he did win in 2014 and Dale Earnhardt Jr. has four straight top 10 finishes at Michigan.
This race is held each year at Michigan International Speedway and is the first of two Sprint Cup races at the track each year. The race has had a number of sponsors through the years with the latest being FireKeepers Casino who takes over this year. The last six winners of this race were Denny Hamlin in 2010 and 2011, Dale Earnhardt Jr. in 2012, Greg Biffle in 2013, Jimmie Johnson in 2014 and Kurt Busch in 2015.
I will take Harvick and Kenseth as my top two choices this week and my longshot is Chase Elliott at odds of 12-1.
