UFC events are offered on pay-per-view television in 150 countries and more than 20 languages. Such growth since 1993, when the first UFC event took place, has made UFC betting; very popular, and BetDSI; brings lines for the UFC fights. 141 UFC events have been held until the end of 2011.

UFC history

On November 12, 1993, the first UFC event was held in Denver, Colorado, at McNichols Sports Arena. Eight fighters from different combat styles faced each other to determine the most effective martial art. This was inspired by a series of videos by the Brazilian Gracie family. Jiu-Jitsu practitioners, the Gracies created the series where Jiu-Jitsu students defeated karate, kickboxing and kung-fu masters. Eventually, one of the Gracies, Royce, became the winner of the first Ultimate Fighting Championship.

In the early 90’s, UFC used the tagline "There are no rules!", even though it did operate with limited rules. Biting, eye gouging were not allowed. And techniques such as hair pulling, headbutting, groin strikes and fish-hooking were allowed but not encouraged.

In the following years, and after banning in 36 states, more rules aimed to eliminate unnecessary violence were sanctioned. Weight classes were introduced, gloves became mandatory, fish-hooking was banned, and kicks to the head of a downed opponent were banned. Banning of strikes to the back of the neck and head, headbutting, small-joint manipulations, groin strikes and limitations on hair pulling came later. Five-minute rounds were established, and the UFC gradually turned into a sport as it is known today.

After almost a decade struggling with the effects of the banning and being relegate into obscurity, in 2006 the UFC started a sustained increase in popularity. Pay-per-view numbers exploded and went over 1,000,000 subscribers in that year. Rival companies were acquired (Pride Fighting, WEC and Strikeforce) and the expansion continued, with more top fighters added to the rosters, and more fights in Canada, Germany and Australia.

Fighters and techniques also improved adding to the excitement of the original tournaments. UFC events are highly expected by fans over the world. As in other MMA events, underdogs may overcome the favorites in just one second, and a good tactic choice may turn of a fight.

UFC gambling

On UFC betting you can bet on the winner of a fight by betting on a money line. The favorite fighter is more expensive to bet on, and the underdog can bring you more money in case he wins the fight.

You can also bet the total number of rounds a fight will go. This is similar to other sports totals. On UFC betting, the total is usually around 1.5 to 2.5 rounds, and you can bet on either the over or the under.

BetDSI offers another option in UFC lines, called alternative fight totals in minutes. Lines go to 4, 8.5 and 14 minutes, depending on the event. Feel the thrill of UFC betting at BetDSI and make your fight nights more exciting.
