Virginia Commonwealth Rams

The Virginia Commonwealth Rams were a major surprise last season as they made the NCAA Tournament in the first year under head coach Will Wade. The Rams have enough talent returning to make it back in 2016-2017 led by guard JeQuan Lewis. The Rams will have to replace Melvin Johnson and Korey Billbury but they bring in freshman De’Riante Jenkins along with Malik Crowfield and Marquell Fraser.

VCU is going to be very guard oriented as the backcourt is very talented with Lewis, Jonathan Williams, Jordan Burgess and Doug Brooks. The key for the Rams will be getting enough frontcourt production to compete in the Atlantic 10 on a regular basis.

2016-2017 Virginia Commonwealth Rams Betting

The Rams could be overvalued this season as they are not likely to have as much scoring as they did a year ago. Lewis will get his points and Williams should be fine as his backcourt mate but the frontcourt is an issue. The key is how well some of the freshmen play this season.

Virginia Commonwealth Rams Picks

The Rams are really good in the backcourt so if they get good play out of Mo Alie-Cox in the frontcourt along with some of the newcomers then the team is going to be really good.  The Rams are also counting on Justin Tillman to have a much improved season as he averaged just 7.2 points per game last season.

VCU should contend in the Atlantic 10 this season and a return trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2016-2017 would not be a surprise.
