North Carolina Tar Heels

The North Carolina Tar Heels did everything last season except win the most important game as they fell to Villanova in the National Championship Game. It won’t be easy to duplicate the success of last season for Roy Williams and the Tar Heels as gone are Brice Johnson and Marcus Paige, the best two players for North Carolina last season.

North Carolina does bring back Joel Berry who averaged 13.8 points and 3.8 assists last season. Justin Jackson should be alongside Berry in the backcourt as Jackson averaged 12.2 points per game last season. Nate Britt should take over as the main backup after playing as the third point guard the last two seasons.

The Tar Heels return Theo Pinson up front but he has yet to show he can do anything but play defense. They also have Kennedy Meeks who averaged 9.2 points and 5.9 rebounds per game last season. The rest of the frontcourt is young led by Kenny Williams and Brandon Robinson.

2016-2017 North Carolina Tar Heels Betting

The Tar Heels are normally overvalued in terms of the pointspread as they are a very public team but they managed to finish around the .500 mark last season against the spread. They could struggle to do that this season as they will need young players like freshman Tony Bradley and senior Isaiah Hicks to play well.

North Carolina Tar Heels Picks

The Tar Heels are almost always good under Roy Williams and they will be really good again this season but they don’t have the look of a team that can reach the Final Four. The Tar Heels simply lost too much talent from last season to be a serious challenger to Duke in the ACC.

The Tar Heels probably still have enough talent to finish with a winning record in the ACC and make the NCAA Tournament but unless some of the young players play a lot better than expected this team is not likely to go far in March.
