Syracuse Orange

The Syracuse Orange were just a .500 team last season in the ACC but they got hot at the right time and made the NCAA Tournament and made it all the way to the Final Four before losing to North Carolina. It will be difficult to come close to that level of success in 2016-2017 as the Orange have to replace Michael Gbinije, Trevor Cooney and Malachi Richards who each averaged over 12 points per game last season.

The Orange will have to get a lot of different players to step up this season including Franklin Howard who really struggled to shoot the ball last season, shooting just 28.6 percent. The Orange brought in Colorado State transfer John Gillon who averaged 13.2 points per game. The Orange may also give freshman Tyus Battle some playing time in the backcourt.

The good news for Syracuse is that they got Andrew White from Nebraska. He averaged 16.6 points and 5.9 rebounds per game last season. He will be joined by Tyler Lydon and Tyler Roberson at forward.  The Orange also have Providence transfer Paschal Chukwu.

2016-2017 Syracuse Orange Betting

Syracuse was a decent team to bet on last season as they went 20-16 ATS. They could slip from that number this season as they are not as good as they were a year ago and many people will simply remember what they did in the NCAA Tournament.

The Orange do have some good young recruits including Taurean Thompson and Matthew Moyer. Both players could add depth to Syracuse this season.

Syracuse Orange Picks

The Orange will once again have an athletic team that plays very good defense. They may not have the shooters capable of challenging top teams on a nightly basis but the Orange are still probably good enough to compete for a winning record in the ACC.  Syracuse will have to finish with a winning record in the ACC this season to make the NCAA Tournament since many people didn’t think they deserved a bid last season.
