2017 South Region Preview

The South Region is loaded with talented teams, so it won’t be an easy road to the Final Four for the top-seeded Tar Heels. North Carolina will have to get past a team like Kentucky or UCLA and that will be difficult, as both of those teams have a lot of offensive talent. Normally you would like the chances of a team like Kentucky, as they are coached by John Calipari, but this year’s Kentucky team is hard to figure out, as they can look really good one game and struggle the next. That is not a recipe for a Final Four run.

If you want a longshot, then the South Region is definitely for you, as there are at least three or four teams that could make a serious run at North Carolina. Middle Tennessee is a 12 seed and they have shocked teams in the past as they beat No. 2 seed Michigan State in the past. The Wichita State Shockers are a 10 seed and they have a history of doing serious damage in the NCAA Tournament.  And don’t forget about Butler who has a strong tourney resume.

The South has some of the best players in the country, as North Carolina has Justin Jackson, Kentucky has Malik Monk and UCLA has Lonzo Ball.

Venues Frequently Used In South Region

Memphis is a frequent South Region site because it’s not too far south in the region. Lexington has a big arena and the home of Kentucky, close to Midwestern states such as Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Indiana, and more. Louisville is also a site in the state of Kentucky which is centrally located. Other South sites have included Austin, Texas; Houston; Arlington, and other places in the state of Texas, which is able to draw big crowds in a populous state near major universities in big urban areas.
