This should be a great tournament with so many of the world’s best players competing. Azarenka is going to be one of the favorites but it could be that Kvitova is the player to watch. She will want to make up for her loss in the Australian Open. Also worth consideration are reigning French Open champion Li Na and US Open champion Samantha Stosur.
Petra Kvitova
She is likely headed to number one in the world in the near future. Many people thought she would win the Australian Open but she couldn’t get past Maria Sharapova. This week’s tournament in Dubai could be the springboard for Kvitova taking over as the top player in the world. “Many people were surprised when Petra Kvitova won Wimbledon last year, but she proved she was not a two-week wonder by adding a number of other prestigious titles as the year progressed,” said Dubai Duty Free executive vice chairman Colm McLoughlin, “We are delighted to welcome her back here once again and look forward to seeing one of the most exciting players to have emerged from the Czech Republic in many years.”
Top Seeds
If the tournament follows the current world rankings then virtually all of the top players in the world will be in the event except #3 Maria Sharapova. Azarenka and Kvitova will likely be two of the top seeds along with World #4 Caroline Wozniacki. Samantha Stosur is ranked 5th in the world and she is in this week’s event along with #6 Agnieszka Radwanska, #7 Marion Bartoloi, #8 Vera Zvonareva, #9 Li Na and #11 Francesca Schiavone. Also worth a look are the rest of the Top 20 in the world including #13 Jelena Jankovic all the way down to #20 Daniela Hantuchova.
WTA Tennis Predictions
We like Kvitova to really take a huge step toward #1 in the world by winning this title. Azarenka will be tough as well and don’t overlook Li Na in tennis odds as she continues to move up the rankings.
