MLS Soccer: Sporting Kansas City vs Los Angeles Galaxy
Friday, April 17th, 2015By Ej Garr
MLS Odds: Kansas City will make their only appearance in Los Angeles this year, when the two face off at StubHub Centeron Saturday. They are scheduled to meet one more time in Kansas City on the last day of the regular season, October 25. The two teams are only separated by one point in the Western Conference standings and, from a statistical basis, have quite a few similarities in 2015.
They have each scored six goals and conceded six goals through six matches. They have both taken about 13 shots per game and have faced 10 shots per game, and have each won a championship in the last two seasons. As we denote below, Kansas City leads the recent series with a 4 - 2 - 4 record against the Galaxy, but have not had much success in the Golden State, with an all-time record of 5-19-6 in 30 games played in Los Angeles.
As far as home and road records go between the two there are some lopsided stats as well, as Kansas City has the most MLS wins away from home since 2011 with 30, while LA has not lost at home in 25 straight games in all competitions.
Kansas City comes off a scoreless draw last weekend with Real Salt Lake, in a game where there was only one official shot on goal registered and a dead even second half as far as possession goes.
Sporting will play three of their next four games away from home and, over that span, will travel from LA to Houston, back home to face Chicago, and then out to Washington DC to take on United. They have relied on their defense of late, holding three of their last four opponents to clean sheets while taking eight of a possible twelve points along the way, with two wins and two draws.
Los Angeles had to revisit their rivalry with Seattle last weekend, and all the talk in pregame was how Seattle was going to exact revenge for last year's playoff battle. As we saw in 2014, the Galaxy erased home field advantage from the Sounders, en route to their fifth MLS championship that they got to host at StubHub Arena.
The Galaxy was not interested in hearing the chatter, and took a 1 - 0 result over the Sounders, who were without Dempsey and Pineda in the lineup.
Seattle put 10 shots on net with them, and Jaime Penedo made all 10 saves, earning him the MLS Player of the Week honor. It would be hard to give anyone else the honor after seeing him put up those numbers. To be honest, some of his saves in that game were ridiculous, and we mean that in a good way. He robbed Neagle five times and two of those were simply outrageous saves that he had no right making.
Let’s just say this: If you are raising your son or daughter to be a goalie in the future, break out the film and witness the clinic that Jaime Penedo put on against Seattle on April 12, 2015.

Quick Analysis & Prediction
Please, there is not much to say here other than how the hell do we expect goals to come in this one?
Last weekend, Penedo did more than just simply 'stand on his head' if you will, and we just saw Kansas City play Salt Lake to a scoreless draw with one single shot on goal between the two.
There was a movie made years ago called 'Analyze That', and we are going to analyze the Under 2.5 at a reasonable -120 for this one, simply because there is not much else to take from what we saw from the two last weekends. Granted, the results from a match a week ago does not simply make this an automatic play, but it certainly gives us enough reason to expect a low-scoring game.
