MLS Soccer: San Jose Earthquakes vs Real Salt Lake
Thursday, April 30th, 2015By Ej Garr
MLS Odds: The San Jose Earthquakes play their second of three MLS meetings with Real Salt Lake in Utah this weekend, and San Jose looks to put on a better performance than they did in their first meeting in California. In San Jose’s second game at their new Avaya Stadium, Salt Lake took the 1 - 0 win and handed the Earthquakes their first loss in their new digs.
Things haven’t gotten much better as San Jose has now lost three of their last four matches overall, and also have a 1 - 3 record away from home. In the process, they have also given up seven of their nine goals on the season in their travels. The new San Jose coach Dominic Kinnear has probably not enjoyed his second tenure in San Jose so far, as they are starting to look eerily familiar to the club they were last year. Unfortunately, that club ended up in last place in the Western Conference standings.
Real Salt Lake comes into the match on the heels of a 4 - 0 loss to New England at Gillette Stadium last weekend, and has now lost two straight matches without scoring a single goal in their last three outings.
Last weekend's game against the Revolution might have been Real Salt Lake’s worst second half performance of the season. While down 2 - 0, they gave up two more goals and didn’t put a single shot on goal. They also only had one attempt that was 10 yards wide of the frame.
Goalkeeper Nick Rimando was on the bench for the match, and Jeff Attinella continued to struggle at the MLS level in a rare start for the team. He has only started 16 games in three seasons with Salt Lake, and has given up 14 goals in 10 starts in 2014. The third meeting for these two teams will come onSeptember 27at Avaya Stadium, where they will meet for the second time.

Quick Analysis & Prediction
The recent series may be tied in the last 10 meetings as noted above, but San Jose has only one win in their last seven meetings, while Salt Lake has a 4 - 2 - 1 record against the Earthquakes since 2013. Both teams have also dealt with the injury bug in the early going of the season, as six players still appear on the Salt Lake injury list. However, it might be good news that Rimando practiced this week and is likely to be back in net for the team.
We do believe we have a total to recommend here, and the value with a +125 on the Under 2.5 is too good to ignore. Rimando being back in net certainly gives that Under a better chance to happen, and Salt Lake hasn't scored a goal since the 1 - 0 win at Avaya Stadium against these Earthquakes. Hopefully they play to a similar result, and we take home a lovely +125 action play on the Under 2.5.
