MLS Soccer Betting: Seattle vs Real Salt Lake
Saturday, October 24th, 2015By Ej Garr
MLS Odds: The Seattle Sounders enter Decision Day facing two completely different possibilities as they enter the finalSundayof the regular season. In the Western Conference standings, the Sounders enter the last round with a home game against an eliminated Salt Lake club. They hope to slip into third place and host a knockout round series, while still needing other scenarios to fall in their favor to see it happen.
At the same token, Sounders could find themselves completely out of the post-season if they lose and Sporting KC and San Jose win in their respective Decision Day affairs.
The Sounders are in this position due to a stretch of the season that saw the absence of both Clint Dempsey and Obafemi Maritns, who is arguably the most dangerous duo in the entire league.
Dempsey had quite a controversial season this year, with the culmination of his infamous U.S Open Cup meltdown that saw him physically tear the referee's book, and toss the remains on the field.
Seattle was on the verge of a 3 - 1 Open Cup loss to their rivals in Portland on June 16, which came at Starfire Stadium where the Sounders had never lost before. Dempsey received a late yellow card, and then threw a temper tantrum that earned him a three-game suspension in the following MLS outings, as well as a two-year ban in Open Cup competitions for his actions.
Obafemi Martins was carted off the field in the match just before regulation time was coming to a close, and ended up missing nearly two months of action due to the injury.
The United States team began international competition in the Gold Cup to start July, and that left the Sounders facing most of July without their two high-impact forwards.
Real Salt Lake was eliminated from post-season contention after their 1 - 0 loss to Dallas at Rio Tinto Stadium last weekend, which capped off a run with three losses in four games that all ended 1 - 0 against them.
Scoring was an issue for most of the season for the Utah-based club that has advanced to no less than the Conference semifinals for the last seven seasons.
That streak has obviously come to an end, so the last task at hand is to make life difficult for Seattle potentially keeping them out of the playoffs with a road win at CenturyLink Field on #DecisionDay.
Kyle Beckerman will not be appearing in the final game of the year for RSL, after acquiring a yellow card in the 53rd minute of the Dallas 1 - 0 loss last weekend that will earn him a suspension.
The only other absence for RSL is the continuing Chris Schuler, who the team hopes to get back in time to start the 2016 season. Seattle also has a long-term injury that we have updated continually since Roman Torres suffered the season ending ACL injury. The knock came in their 1 - 1 draw against San Jose on September 12 just before halftime.
Two other defenders will be absent for Seattle, putting Andres Correa and Oniel Fisher as spectators with an abductor and hamstring injury, respectively.
Last 10 MLS Meetings:
The recent series is tied as each team has 4 Wins and 2 Draws in the last 10 MLS meetings.
The two have met 20 times in the all-time series, showing Real Salt Lake with an 8 Win, 7 Loss and 5 Draw advantage. RSL acquired that lead in the only meeting between them in the regular season on August 22, with a 2 - 0 win at Rio Tinto Stadium.
1x2 3-Way Lines:
Seattle -1 -145
RSL +1 +125
Total O/U 2.5:
Quick Analysis & Prediction
The Sounders find themselves in a much different position from their 2014 campaign, which saw them earn their first Supporters Shield in their brief history in MLS. Seattle did eventually surrender that advantage to the Galaxy, who ended up hosting and winning their fifth MLS Cup in the now 20 year history of the league.
Salt Lake is obviously playing to get in Seattle's way if they can, but that will not likely happen against a relatively healthy Sounders offense that will be tossing shots from all over the field.
In a familiar theme around MLS on Decision Day, we offer yet another total to go Over the number, as RSL is simply not going to slow down the Sounders for 90 minutes.
Play the Over 2.5 and drink the -135 juice, but think about combining that with one of your other favorite plays as combo material, while improving your payout with this Over 2.5 included in your parlay.
