MLS Soccer Betting: Seattle vs Los Angeles
Saturday, October 3rd, 2015By Ej Garr
MLS Odds: As the Los Angeles Galaxy seek out their fifth Supporters Shield in team history to help defend their 2014 MLS Championship, the Seattle Sounders will have their sayon Sundayat CenturyLink Field as the two renew their Western Conference rivalry. The outcome of this game will greatly impact the Western Conference playoff picture, as both teams make up two of the top four places in the standings entering the weekend of action around MLS.
For the first time in the seven-year history between the two teams, the Los Angeles Galaxy are in search of their first three-game sweep of the season series since the Sounders joined MLS in 2009.
The Galaxy enter the weekend in first place in the Western Conference with 50 points, leading all of MLS by a mere two points with three teams in the league sitting behind them with 48 points.
With the Western Conference being highly contested throughout the season, no teams have yet clinched their way to the playoffs as we enter the final month of the regular season.
The Galaxy and the Whitecaps are the only two teams that can clinch playoff berths in the Western Conference with wins this weekend. Other teams have the potential to earn playoff berths, but the Galaxy and Caps can do it without the need of other results from games taking place around MLS to aid their way through. For example, Seattle can clinch a playoff berth this weekend, but they need three other results to happen for them to see their way through. Not only do they need a win in Los Angeles, but they also need San Jose to lose to Vancouver, a Houston loss or draw against Dallas, and a Real Salt Lake loss or draw against Colorado.
The Galaxy also face a couple of different scenarios that could factor in if they draw in Seattle, or even lose to Seattle this weekend. We can assume that the Galaxy would rather earn their way there, and get closer to home field advantage through the entire Western Conference post-season with a win over the Sounders.
Since the Sounders 3 - 1 loss onAugust 9thin the second game of the series against Los Angeles, Seattle has only one loss in their seven games since, and are riding a five-game streak without a loss entering the weekend.
Seattle will have 13 days off after this weekend's outing, as they will face Houston onOctober 18, and finish the regular season with a home game against Real Salt Lake on the 25th.
Last 10 MLS Meetings:
The Galaxy lead the recent series having 5 wins, 2 Losses and 3 Draws in the last 10 MLS meetings.
Seattle and LA met five times last season, two of which came on the final two weekends of the regular season, with their last two meetings in the Conference Finals.
1x2 3-Way Lines:
Seattle Pk -160
LA Pk +135
Total O/U 2.5:
Quick Analysis & Prediction
If you recall the last meeting between these two teams, we had a rather hysterical prediction on the total, as we called out the line setters and accused them of being drunk as they offered a simple -115 on the Over 2.5.
After a 3 - 1 result made us look good, we find ourselves contemplating a similar play this weekend, although this time we would have to pay $35 of juice instead of $15.
We really don't care what the offer is on this total, because there is no price high enough to suggest this Over again.
Granted the -135 is not exactly all that exciting, and it is right at our cutoff point as far as juice goes, so if you are in a position to move this total to a straight 3 to go Over, feel free to take that offer that will feature a +125 on the action.
That is tremendous value for a 2 - 1 result to at worst push the play, but in all reality, we could see that score at half time with the potential of these two offenses on the same field. In a huge rivalry, that has only gotten larger after last year's five meetings that concluded in the Western Conference finals, we expect fireworks for 90 minutes in the final game of the weekend across MLS.
