MLS Soccer Betting: Real Salt Lake vs Seattle
Friday, August 21st, 2015By Ej Garr
MLS Odds: It took until mid-August, but Salt Lake and Seattle finally get their season series underwaythis Saturdayat Rio Tinto Stadium. The two will play on the final day of the regular season at CenturyLink Field, with playoff implications likely involved.
Seattle finally saw the return of Obafemi Martins this past weekend, and the timing could not have been any better. With Clint Dempsey still out of the lineup, Martins returned against Orlando City to help lead the Sounders to a resounding 4 - 0 win over the expansion side, snapping their five-game losing streak. With the win, Seattle kept pace in the Western Conference, while holding on to the sixth and final playoff position with only nine games remaining in their regular season.
Martins scored two goals and had a chance for a hat trick opportunity, but a missed penalty kick cost him.
Martins and Dempsey have not been on the field together since the U.S Open Cup defeat to Portland back in mid-June, and Dempsey's return this weekend is still unclear. Dempsey's absence sees him join a long list of Sounders players who are on the MLS injury report this weekend, as six other players are either out or questionable for the trip to Utah.
Defender Andres Correa, forward Andy Craven, and defender Damion Lowe will not be traveling with the team, and midfielder Osvaldo Alonso, forward Chad Barrett, and defender Leonardo Gonzalez are game time decisions although the three have missed most of the week in practice.
Real Salt Lake is in no better shape than Seattle, as they enter the weekend looking to snap their own three-game losing streak. The Utah-based outfit is six points behind Seattle for the last playoff position in the Western Conference, but are also a mere five points out of the basement above Colorado.
Over the last three league games, Salt Lake has allowed 11 goals, which is their exact goal differential on the season as they have scored 27 goals while allowing 38 through 25 games played.
Last weekend's home loss to Portland was a tough pill to swallow, as the match was tied 0 - 0 as the referee added four minutes of extra time.
With another two minutes added for injury time in the extra frame, Nat Borchers scored with a header chance from a corner kick three seconds before the 95th minute came to a close, to rip out the hearts of the Salt Lake faithful at Rio Tinto Stadium.

Quick Analysis & Prediction
Both clubs are struggling to survive in the Western Conference, but with Obafemi Martins back in the mix for Seattle, he is undoubtedly the most dangerous player on this field.
Salt Lake simply does not have the attacking ability to break down Seattle's defense and Stefan Frei, so we see a golden opportunity to chase a nice price on this handicap on the Sounders.
This Pk Draw no Bet action of +140 on Seattle seems almost too good to be true, and yes, it would be nice to have Dempsey back, and there is an outside chance that will happen, as he is not ruled out of the game yet.
Certainly you should check your lineups when the game is about to begin, and if Dempsey and Martins are on this field together, there is nothing left to do but bear down on this Pk option with Seattle at a lovely +140.
