MLS Soccer Betting: Real Salt Lake vs Montreal
Friday, May 15th, 2015By Ej Garr
MLS Odds: Real Salt Lake and Montreal meet for the only time in 2015 at Stade Saputo, and the Impact is still chasing their first win of the season. Real Salt Lake finally found the net last weekend against the Chicago Fire, taking a big 2 - 1 win that came with a much-needed three points. The win put them in a four-way tie in the Western Conference standings with 14 points, and ended a scoring drought that spanned over five games. There was a goal scored for RSL in the 1 - 1 match with San Jose, but the Earthquakes put that ball in their own net.
It wasn't exactly an overwhelming performance for RSL, since they only managed two shots on frame, but luckily for them, each shot found the back of the net. Saborio got them off to a quick start with a goal in the 13th minute, and that was the only shot on goal by both teams in the first half.
Luke Mulholland doubled the lead in the 56th minute, and that again was the only shot on goal for the team in the second half. Montreal has only played five games thus far in the MLS season, although they have been playing plenty of soccer in other competitions. They advanced all the way to the Champions League finals, despite the loss to Club America of Mexico, and have also advanced in the finals of the Canadian Championships. The Impact awaits the winner of the Vancouver / Edmonton series, who are tied 1 - 1 on aggregate and playing the second leg May 20 in Edmonton.
As you will see below, the home team has taken all three meetings in this series, and the two have played once a year since Montreal came in to the league in 2012.
The Impact comes off a 2 - 1 loss to Portland last weekend after a long hiatus from league play, and are in the Eastern Conference basement with only two points from two draws, while only scoring three goals.
They will have three of the next four games at home, and will face three Western Conference foes in each home game.
Last 3 MLS Meetings:
The two have met three times in MLS action, with the home team winning all three games. Salt Lake leads the series 2 – 1.
1x2 3-Way Lines:
RSL +0.5 -160

Quick Analysis & Prediction
Not only has Montreal only scored three goals, but they have allowed eight goals in five matches and that is not going to help their cause. We know they have managed to play well outside of MLS, but this is not one of those games, and Montreal has a huge uphill battle ahead of them after the rough start in league play.
Salt Lake does not present much of an offensive threat at all, as we know from the last month's results. Scoring twice on two shots is about as lucky as you can get, and the coach might say that he felt the team got things back in shape, but we would beg to differ.
The Under 2.5 is the play at -125. We are not convinced that Montreal has the offense to break down Salt Lake and, as we said, we are equally not impressed with anything Salt Lake is doing on the offensive side of the ball.
A 1 - 1 draw could likely present itself, so we would not blame a soul for taking a chance on that play, especially since the +0.5 handicap on RSL is an obnoxious -160, leaving no room for a play there.
