MLS Soccer Betting: Real Salt Lake vs Los Angeles
Friday, September 18th, 2015By Ej Garr
MLS Odds: Real Salt Lake and the Los Angeles Galaxy meet for the fourth time this year in all competitions, as both enter the weekend with different needs as they head towards the playoffs. Real Salt Lake took out the Los Angeles Galaxy early in the U.S Open Cup quarterfinals, but the two face much different circumstances as they meet for the final time in the regular season.
Salt Lake find themselves only a point away from the Western Conference cellar ahead of Colorado, but with six matches remaining they only have six points to make up on Portland and Kansas City who are tied for the final playoff position in the West.
In the two regular season meetings the team have played this year we have only seen one goal between them, with the Galaxy taking a 1 - 0 victory at home, while the two played to a scoreless draw here at Rio Tinto Stadium back in early May.
Salt Lake picked up a big 3 - 1 road win last weekend against Houston, who are also outside of the playoff picture as the two are now tied together with 35 points chasing playoff positions.
The Utah-based club also played a scoreless draw this week in Champions League against Mexican side Santa Tecla on the road, and now return home to face Los Angeles with a second match against Santa Tecla here at Rio Tintoon Thursday.
The Galaxy enter the weekend one point behind Western Conference leaders Vancouver and tied with Dallas with 47 points as they seek a fifth Supporters Shield award in their 19-year history in MLS.
Ironically enough, the Galaxy has won three of the last four MLS titles with only one Supporters Shield trophy in tow and, last season, Seattle took the honor over Los Angeles when the two met for the final two games of the regular season.
After this outing with RSL, the Galaxy will face four teams who are all in the playoff hunt in the West, as they will play host to Dallas in the final game of September, before an away game with Seattle at CenturyLink Field.
A home game with Portland, and a season finale against Sporting Kansas City at Sporting Park, will decide the fate of the Galaxy, who have brought in numerous international players to get them to the Promised Land this season.
In unexpected fashion, the Galaxy have been shut out in back-to-back outings, which to be honest, we didn't think would happen even once, much less in two successive outings.

Quick Analysis & Prediction
What makes this match a little tricky now to provide a prediction, Real Salt Lake is a desperate club who can almost assuredly be knocked out of the playoff picture should they come away with nothing from this game. At the same token, if Los Angeles comes out of Rio Tinto with no points to show for their efforts, Vancouver and Dallas could stretch a lead with only four games remaining in the regular season for the Galaxy.
Every point down the stretch is like a unit of gold, and at 1,140 dollars an ounce, each team would probably trade a necklace or a bracelet to earn a playoff bid this season, especially in the Western Conference.
This will likely be a low-scoring game again, so whomever finds that all-important goal will likely do their best to sit on it and play defense for as long as possible,
We will offer the Under 2.5 at +110, expecting a 1 - 0 or 1 - 1 type of result, but of course anything can happen on any given night in MLS.
A late goal has changed the complexion of so many games this season, which is arguably the case in any league on the planet for the most part, so hopefully that third goal can be avoided, and we can cash an Under ticket with plus money action on the board.
