MLS Odds: In a battle among the top two teams in the Eastern Conference standings, DC United and New England renew their long time MLS rivalry when they face off for the second of three regular season meetings at RFK Stadiumon Sunday. Only separated by four points in the Conference, DC United holds the top spot with 28 points, but their lead has diminished lately, as they look to snap a two-game skid in league play.
DC United and New England both had U.S Open Cup matches this week, and only DC United was able to escape with a victory over a USL opponent.United needed extra time to get by the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, in a game that went to the extra frame tied at 1 - 1.United took an early lead in the 8th minute after a goal from Facundo Coria, but were equalized after a penalty kick was converted by Pittsburgh's Rob Vincent in the 24th minute.
No one was able to find the net in regulation, but it only took two minutes in extra time for Kofi Opare to break the tie, and Nick DeLeon added a third goal in the 104th minute.
DC United will face the Philadelphia Union in the round of 16 onJune 30, at PPL Park in Chester, PA.
New England was the only MLS team to have not won their U.S Open Cup match against a USL club this week, as they lost to the Charlotte Independence 1 - 0, and are now out of the tournament. Charlotte's Jorge Herrera put a fantastic shot in the back of the net in the 55th minute to secure the win for the USL franchise, who are in 9th place in the USL Eastern Conference standings with only 10 points through 12 games played.
Charlotte was playing with a backup goal keeper, as John Berner was hurt in the previous round of the U.S Cup against Carolina. Hunter Gilstrap made the start, and with the aid of his defense, was able to keep New England to a clean sheet.
In recent MLS action, DC United's two-game skid came at the hands of Toronto and Orlando City. Toronto's Sebastian Giovinco tallied twice at RFK Stadium to earn the Reds a 2 - 1 victory, snapping the long home streak without a loss for United.
Orlando City took a 1 - 0 result over United at the Citrus Bowl last weekend, and only managed two shots on goal in the match. Kaka failed to convert a penalty kick on the half-hour mark after Bill Hamid made the save, but Kaka easily put the rebound in the back of the net, with a header chance.

Quick Analysis & Prediction
The road team has only taken one victory in the last eight MLS encounters and, after seeing New England look as lethargic as they did in their U.S Open Cup match, it will be hard to invest in this team for a spell.
Granted, the USL and NASL teams in the United States soccer scene always give MLS clubs a good fight, and we saw some tremendous battles all around the U.S Cup this past week.
However, investing in these two teams to score right now, is also something we cannot recommend, seeing that they both need to regroup and turn more attention to the offensive side of the ball.
The Under 2.5 at -115 is certainly going on the board for us in this match, as we just do not see how either of these clubs will find a second goal. 1 - 1 is about as good as it will get, so the recommendation on a low-scoring game is the way to go at RFK this weekend.
