MLS Soccer Betting: Colorado Rapids vs Philadelphia Union
Friday, March 6th, 2015By Ej Garr
MLS Odds: Two teams that are looking to get back to the MLS playoffs meet at PPL to kick off the 2015 campaign. Pablo Mastroeni begins his second full season as headman in Colorado this year, although he wasn't truly given the reigns until the season was about to start. He was part of the process in building the club last year, but this will be his first season where he is actually controlling the roster.
The team was playing moderately well until the last 14 games of the year destroyed their chances. They went 0W - 12L - 2D down the stretch, while surrendering 62 goals on the season, a league high.
To help the back line, the team let go both Marvell Wynne and Chris Klute, and replaced them with wily veterans Bobby Burling and Michael Harrington. Zach MacMath will likely be the opening day keeper, coming over to the club after four years in Philly.
The Union joined MLS in 2010, and they have missed the playoffs in 4 of their 5 seasons in the league, including the last 3 years in a row. They got to the finals of the U.S Cup last year, but lost to Seattle at home 3 - 1, and it really seemed to throw them off as the season winded down.
Coach Jim Curtain enters his first full season with the club, after taking over last June for John Hackworth. He has tried to keep the core of the team intact and he is hoping that they can come together as a team to build on what they started last year. There has been some changes however, as the team brings in such players as Venezuela National Fernando Aristeguieta and ex-Sporting Kansas City forward C.J. Sapong. With the departure of defensemen Carlos Valdes, on loanBenfica veteran Steven Vitoria comes over to the team and brings much needed experience in front of keeper Rais Mbolhi, who helped Algeria get to the knockout stage of the World Cup for the first time in their nation's history.
The entire midfield returns to the team and consists of Edu, Nogueira, Wenger, Maidana and Le Toux. All the members of this group have made an impression around the league.

Total O/U 2.5:
Quick Analysis & Prediction
Between all the moves that both clubs have made in the off-season, one thing we know for sure is that offensively, these two should both be producing goals throughout the season. Despite some of the changes the Rapids have made on their back line, there really has not been as much of an improvement that makes anyone think that the back line has been completely addressed, and offensively, the talent is all over this pitch.
We were more than pleasantly surprised to see this total come out, with the line setters thinking the Under deserved the -135. There is no way on God's green earth that anyone could suggest a low scoring game here, and we are no exception.
The Over 2.5 at a delicious +115 makes our board, and if you remember one thing about last year, we suggested totals to go over plenty. This will be another of those times. Expect the net to be found early and often, and make sure you think of us when you cash that ticket!
