MLS Odds: The San Jose Earthquakes and Sporting Kansas City are each in playoff contention as they enter their match at Avaya Stadiumon Friday night, but there is nothing guaranteed for either team as the regular season winds down. Sporting KC is in great shape if you think about the fact that they have a game in hand on everyone in the conference, and have three games left including this match.

Vancouver has a two-point advantage on Sporting, but only have one game remaining in their regular season, which will come at BC Place against Houston. Sporting'sKrisztián Németh has certainly been making news lately, as the Polish national has been putting the ball in the back of the net in every competition he has played in. He scored the only goal in Sporting's 1 - 1 extra time win over Philadelphia in the U.S Open Cup.

He scored the lone goal in Portland that gave Kansas City three important road points in a 1 - 0 win last time out in league play. And he scored to lift Poland to a 2 - 1 win over Ireland in the Euro 2016 campaign taking place this past week. He may not be doing what Robert Lewandowski is doing lately, butNémethis certainly carrying the load right now in whatever event he is taking part in.

With the Real Salt Lake loss to Portland, Kansas City has the playoffs set and will now just be fighting for any type of home field advantage they can find. As mentioned, with Vancouver only two points ahead and only one game left to play, the Galaxy are just one point ahead of Vancouver who currently hold the second spot in the standings that carries home field in to the conference semi's.

Portland's win over Salt Lakeon Wednesdaynight put San Jose back to the seventh position in the Western Conference standings, and currently outside of playoff contention. San Jose and Portland were tied with 44 points until Portland's victory bolstered the Timbers to 47 points, currently tied with Seattle who both sit one point behind Sporting Kansas City.

San Jose got back Chris Wondolowski this week after Jurgen Klinsmann sent home eight players from the U.S National Team. After the Men's 3 - 2 loss to Mexico that would have sealed a spot in the 2017 Confederates Cup, Wondolowski wasn't used in that match, and was not asked to stay for the Costa Rica friendly that the U.S Men's team also lost.

On a side note, the Earthquakes will be honoring 50 breast cancer survivors on the field prior to kickoff, sponsored by Stanford Health Care on what is also labeled as fan appreciation night at Avaya Stadium.

    Last 12 MLS Meetings:

The two teams have met 12 times in MLS history, and Sporting KC leads the series with 6 Wins, 5 Losses and 1 Draw.

San Jose became the first team in the series to win a game away from home, with their 5 - 0 win at Sporting Park in the first and only other meeting this year.

    Quick Analysis & Prediction

    Quick Analysis:

It is hard to forget the last time these two played, as San Jose walked in to Sporting Park and handed them a devastating 5 - 0 loss in front of their fans.

We do not expect anything remotely similar to that outcome to take place this weekend, with so much on the line for both teams.

San Jose obviously needs three points, because a draw would still mean they would have to win out and hope for some help to get back in the chase for the post-season.

Even though we respect both defenses a bit, it is hard to fathom that either team wants to play for a point and sit back in a defensive battle.

At the same token, San Jose has no problem doing just that, and sitting back looking to counter and extend the field with the aid of the back line and David Bingham playing extremely well in net.

We predict a 2 - 1 score somehow, as Kansas City certainly wants to get the bad taste of a 5 - 0 home beat down by the Quakes out of their mouths, while having the potential to go so far as to earn a Supporters Shield.

Risky as it is, the Over 2.5 at -110 makes the board for us, and hopefully it is just mission difficult and will take some time to hit as the second half opens up.
