MLS Odds: Neither Real Salt Lake nor the Portland Timbers have been eliminated from the post-season in the Western Conference, and we pay homage to the late Yogi Berra with one of his famous quotes, "It ain't over, till it’s over." Nine of the 10 teams in the Western Conference are still alive in their quest for the post-season, as only the Colorado Rapids have been eliminated from a potential playoff appearance.

Portland enters their mid-week encounter at Rio Tinto Stadium tied at 44 points with San Jose, as the two battle for the sixth position in the West that holds the final entry to the post-season. The two teams are trying to hold back Houston and Real Salt Lake, who have 41 points, with less than two weeks remaining in the regular season.

The Timbers lost their most recent outing on October 3 at home to Sporting Kansas City 1 - 0, which came just three days after Sporting took the U.S Open Cup over Philadelphia in a shootout that went eight rounds.

Despite the Timbers dominating most of the statistics in the outing, Hungarian national Krisztian Nemeth settled the match with a goal in the 83rd minute for Kansas City, leaving Portland with one win in their last six games and entering the most important stretch of the regular season.

On a side note, Nemeth scored both goals in a 2 - 1 win for Hungary in their Euro 2016 campaign this week to help his national team earn a third place bid to the playoff round of the tournament. Nemeth also scored the lone goal for Sporting KC in their U.S Open Cup win, so the Timbers are not the only club dealing with how well Nemeth has played lately.

Real Salt Lake will be getting both Nick Rimando and Kyle Beckerman back earlier than first thought. Jurgen Klinsmann decided to let most of his regulars go back to their domestic campaigns, after the 3 - 2 loss to Mexicoon Saturdayfor the U.S National Team.

As we know and have mentioned in a previous article, Klinsmann's future with the U.S Team might not extend past his 2018 contract, should the failures to win trophies continue.

Salt Lake has taken three of their last four outings to get back in the chase for the playoffs, and are coming off a road win against Colorado that knocked the Rapids officially out of post-season contention.

Salt Lake had to come back from being a goal down last weekend in their outing with Colorado, and showed a ton of heart as they were facing a team on the brink of removal of any chance of a playoff bid, while themselves facing a similar fate.

Should Salt Lake had not comeback to take three points against the Rapids, we would be having a much different discussion than we are now.

The Utah club will have Dallas and Seattle left to play in the regular season, which will likely eventually lead to their bowing out of the playoff chase regardless. There is still much left work to do for Salt Lake, although a 3 - 0 finish would certainly keep the upcoming conversations lively, no doubt.

    Quick Analysis & Prediction

    Quick Analysis:

As noted in the recent meetings area, Portland has only won three times in the 15 game all-time series against Real Salt Lake, although the Timbers have taken the last two regular season matches at Rio Tinto Stadium.

Keep in mind, however, that this is the fourth meeting of the year for these two, as Real knocked out Portland from the U.S Open Cup here in Utah onJuly 1.

Let's face facts here, because this is essentially a playoff game for these two. The loser of this affair will certainly give their playoff chances a huge hit to a better draft pick next year, instead of the post-season this year.

If the line setters are going to give me Nick Rimando at home for +125, in a big game that keeps his team in the post-season chase, than who the hell am I to argue with them?

That +125 offer on the RSL 3-Way action is fine with us to suggest to the players this weekend, with value, and a home team that has only two losses in 15 contests this year.
