MLS Odds: Houston and Kansas City enter their mid-week match at BBVA Compass Stadiumon Wednesday, with much different scenarios in place as the Western Conference playoffs approach. The Houston Dynamo enter the game with six points to make up on the Portland Timbers, who currently hold the sixth and final playoff position with 41 points in the conference.

The Dynamo went down 1 - 0 to the Union this past weekend before the fans were barely in their seats. Sebastian Le Toux and Cristian Maidana played a give-and-go that sent Le Toux on a break down the right side of the field, and found Barnetta at the top of the 18-yard box. Barnetta controlled the ball and made one move towards goal and slid it past Tyler Deric's left side.

Houston's best chance of the first half came in the 36th minute off a cross inside the box from Sarkodie, who found Horst pressing in the middle as he clang a header off the far post.

Chris Sapong made it 2 - 0 just after the hour mark of the game, earning Philly keeper John McCarthy his second clean sheet of his young career.

After going five straight matches without a win, Sporting KC rebounded with a huge resulton Friday, taking a 3 - 1 win over FC Dallas.

Benny Feilhaber's brace added to Dom Dwyer’s goal, as Dwyer's team-leading 15th goal in all competitions helped keep Sporting KC in the thick of the Western Conference playoff chase.

Sporting KC enters their mid-week encounter with Houston having 44 points, and in a precarious position to say the least. With six games left in their regular season schedule, Sporting has the potential to take the top spot in the Western Conference, only trailing Vancouver by four points, but at the same token, they could play themselves right out of the playoffs all together.

Portland and San Jose are battling for the sixth spot in the West, with 41 and 40 points respectively, as Portland currently holds the spot they are both competing for, but Salt Lake is only six points behind KC, and are also still in this conversation for a post-season entry.

Portland and San Jose are both on the Kansas City schedule in back-to-back matches to start October, each of which are road games for Sporting, so those two games between the three teams could eventually determine which of them hangs on to take the sixth position.

Next is a big eight days for Sporting Kansas City, as they will leave Houston, return home to face Seattleon Sunday, and compete in the U.S Open Cup Finals at PPL Park against the Philadelphia Union onSeptember 30. Sporting is looking for their first Cup since the 2012 campaign, when they defeated Seattle at Sporting Park on penalty kicks. They are seeking their third Cup title having also defeated the Fire 1 - 0 in extra time at Arrowhead Stadium in 2004.

    Quick Analysis & Prediction

    Quick Analysis:

Sporting Kansas City owns the Dynamo in their recent history, as we mentioned in the Last 10 Meetings area of the article, as the Dynamo have one win in the last 11 meetings in all competitions.

Sporting KC took out Houston in the Open Cup quarterfinals this year, and the two teams have played to a draw in both of their regular season meetings this season.

Sporting KC has the ability to take this game, and it was nice to see them get back on track last weekend against Dallas, with so much going wrong for them lately.

What that win did was give them confidence that they can finish the season strong, and again keep in mind that this Sporting team could potentially still come out of the West as the top dog if they win out and see some mixed results from the four teams ahead of them.

Hopefully, we are going to cash this Over 2.5 ticket, even though the Houston offense can be so disappointing at times.

The Dynamo should have success scoring at home though, as they have found the net in 12 of their last 13 home outings in all competitions, scoring at least one at home in nine straight as well.

The Over 2.5 at a semi-reasonable -120 makes our board in this one, expecting a 3 - 2 type of match to be played with so much pending on this result for both sides as the playoffs get closer.
