MLS Soccer Betting at BetDSI: Columbus vs Portland
Friday, September 25th, 2015By Ej Garr
MLS Odds: The Columbus Crew can become the second team in the Eastern Conference to clinch a spot in the post-season, joining the New York Red Bulls who have already earned their spot in the playoffs.
The Crew have four remaining games in the regular season, all with teams who are in the hunt for the post-season, as they will face the Red Bulls, Toronto, and DC United in their final three games in October. They will also take on a Portland team who is in sixth place in the Western Conference and trying to stay in the chase for the playoffs. Columbus enters the weekend with only one loss in their last seven games, while winning four of their last five outings.
This has propelled them to second place in the Eastern Conference and, with a win or a draw at home this weekend, can punch their ticket to the playoffs.
The Crew can still back in to the playoffs should Orlando City lose or draw against the Red Bullson Fridaynight.
Amazingly, the road has been how the Crew has gotten to where they are, after a miserable start to the season away from MAPFRE Stadium.
The Crew has taken their last four road games with an exact 2 - 1 score, earning wins over Colorado, NYCFC, Philadelphia and DC United, and we know they are as dangerous as anyone at home as well.
Kei Kamara has the potential to join Sebastian Giovinco as the only two players in MLS history to have 20 goals and 10 assists, needing only two assists to go along with his league-leading 21 goals scored this season.
The Portland Timbers enter the weekend with a slim one-point lead over the San Jose Earthquakes for the final playoff position in the Western Conference.
With no wins in their last four outings, the Timbers have been held scoreless in their last two games against Eastern Conference opponents, and will have four remaining games against teams from the West to finish out the regular season upon exiting MAPFRE Stadium.
Portland will play host to Sporting Kansas City next weekend, and will have 10 days off to prepare for two road games against Real Salt Lake and the defending champion Los Angeles Galaxy. They will wrap up their regular season at home against Colorado.
Portland has struggled away from Providence Park lately, losing five of their last seven games, including their U.S Open Cup defeat to Real Salt Lake on the first day of July.

Quick Analysis & Prediction
We are not sure why the line setters are offering a simple -115 on the Crew here at home, as we know that Columbus rarely loses two straight games at home, but come off their 3 - 0 loss to Dallas last time out at MAPFRE Stadium.
Both teams know that points are of the essence, and with only so many opportunities to find points left in the regular season, the word desperate is mildly represented in the importance of this match.
Again we say that if the line setters are only asking for $15 to play for the Crew at home, then who are we to deny the fact that Portland has played terrible on the road, and Columbus will likely press for 90 minutes to get a huge result in their favor.
The Crew -115 on the 3-Way line to get all three points is our expectation for this match, and we expect no less than a 2 - 1 win for the home side.
We might have suggested the total here, but a straight 3 isn't exactly all that enticing since we expect a 2 - 1 match to take place.
