MLS Soccer Betting at BetDSI: Columbus vs NY Red Bulls
Friday, July 3rd, 2015By Ej Garr
MLS Odds: The Columbus Crew and the New York Red Bulls meet for the second time this season, and the Crew look to atone for a 2 - 1 Red Bull win at MAPFRE Stadium back in March. That win for New York snapped a seven-game run of results without a loss at home for the Crew, a run that dated back to the 2014 season. On the reverse side, the result was part of the Red Bulls hot start to 2015,that saw them start this season with seven games without a loss.
In direct correlation to the good beginning of 2015, the Red Bulls ran into a wall after their seventh game of the season, only winning one of their next seven outings in MLS action. They fell to fifth in the Eastern Conference standings at the time.
The Red Bulls are now tied with Toronto with 23 points in the third spot in the table, and have reeled off four wins in their last five games, if we include the two U.S Open Cup wins over the NASL's Atlanta Silverbacks and New York Cosmos.
New York has had two outstanding outings in a row, taking down both New York teams in MLS and Open Cup action. After going down 1 - 0 to NYCFC at Yankee Stadium this past weekend, the Red Bulls put on a clinic in the second half, scoring three unanswered goals, with relentless pressure that NYCFC simply could not contain.
In their U.S Open Cup match against the Cosmoson Wednesday, the Red Bulls got revenge for last year's 3 - 0 defeat at the hands of the Cosmos in the 2014 Open Cup, and did not even put Bradley Wright-Phillips on the field. Lloyd Sam did make his return from injury, however, and appeared healthy while utilizing his speed on the outside to cause trouble for the Cosmos back line right up until he was taken out a sub late in the game.
The Columbus Crew had a hysterical quote on their home page relating to this match, when midfielder Tony Tchani seemed to provide a simple game plan for a positive showing this weekend. He was quoted as saying, "We just simply need to be the team that scores first."
Let's ask NYCFC how that approach worked for them last weekend, as the Red Bulls went down 1 - 0 early and put on a second half barnstorm on their NY rivals in a 3 - 1 win, as we noted earlier.
Columbus yet again proved their worth away from home last weekend, although they did settle for a draw, which is not the worst result away from home. They are still winless, however, when they leave MAPFRE Stadium this year, and it cost them again in their U.S Cup outing just days ago, losing 2 - 0 to Orlando City at the Citrus Bowl.

Quick Analysis & Prediction
We played the Over 2.5 in the first meeting these two had in March, and the 2 - 1 result was all we needed to see.
Columbus likes to act like they can beat anyone at home, because of their up tempo and lively crowd, but we already have seen that the Red Bulls have no concern, because actions are louder than words.
With a rested Wright-Phillips and the return of Lloyd Sam to the mix for New York, we expect a similar scoreline to the one we saw in the first meeting between these two.
They will close out the season series in October at Red Bull Arena.
Once again, we expect plenty of up-and-down, back-and-forth action, and the total is exactly where we will look to extract some funds from this match.
The line setters know what we know, and list a -125 on the Over 2.5 action, and if that is the price we need to pay to cash a ticket, then we will certainly drink that juice and gulp down another winner.
Play the Over 2.5 at -125, and if they cash us out, we will not forget it when it comes to the third meeting between the two up the road.
