    Chicago Fire vs Philadelphia Union

MLS Soccer odds: The Fire is not completely out of contention in the Eastern Conference just yet. They are 10 points back of the fifth spot, but will need every point they can get in their last five matches and a good bit of help from the teams above them to fall apart.

With 3 points tonight, Philadelphia can find themselves right in the mix, tied with the New York Red Bulls for that 5th and final spot with 41 points, but the Union only has 3 games remaining to everyone's 4. Points are of the utmost importance with every remaining game and Philly should be treating the rest of the schedule as playoff games.

    Quick Analysis & Prediction

    Quick Analysis:

For two teams that are trying to chase down a playoff spot, neither are playing particularly well as of late.

All too often, Chicago has settled for a draw this year, easily leading the league with 16, and while getting points of any nature is usually a good thing, 2 wins in 14 road matches will usually not lead to a playoff appearance (0 - 5 - 1 their last 6 road games and are 0 - 2 - 2 in their last 4 matches).

It’s quite the opposite with Philly at home who had been playing stellar soccer dating back to May 31, with only 2 losses at PPL Park and going 7 – 2 – 5 overall in their last 14 matches before their extra time loss to Seattle in the US Open Cup Final 3 – 1 on September 16. However, in their last 2 MLS matches since the Cup Final they have been completely shut down by Houston and DC United and find themselves in the 6th spot, 3 points back of New York for the final playoff position in the Eastern Conference.

There is plenty of potential for a play on the draw or Chicago's +0.5, both with sure value from an ROI perspective.

Ironic how they can both practically seal each others fate by settling for a point a piece, as that would essentially knock Chicago out of the playoff picture completely. It would also leave Philly with 3 games remaining to everyone's 4, sitting in 6th and hoping someone will fall apart above them. They did, indeed, draw the last 2 meetings.

    Prediction:

While yes, there is a probability for yet another draw here, Chicago playing away from home is not exactly an investment worth making. There may be minimal juice/vig on Philly to win outright on the 1x2 3-Way line, but that is potentially the best play on the board for this match. I think they will enjoy the home field, the fans and the situation to take 3 points and tie the Red Bulls for that 5th spot, for now at least.
