Premier League Betting: Aston Villa just barely avoided relegation a year ago as they finished in 15th place in the Premier League. Aston Villa is not a contender to win the league in 2013-2014 but they could be improved. They did sign Christian Benteke to a new four-year deal so there is hope for the team to finish higher than they did a year ago. Aston Villa is still listed as a 100-1 longshot at BetDSI sportsbook to win the Premier League in 2013-2014. The key to improving this season will be to cut down on goals allowed as last season they allowed 69 and that was third-worst in the league.

Here is a look at the 2013-2014 Aston Villa squad.

    Christian Benteke

He was so important to Aston Villa a year ago that he scored 19 of their 47 goals. He is only 22 years old so Aston Villa can expect that he is going to continue to improve. Considering the defense is still very weak, Benteke will need to continue to pump in goals for Aston Villa to improve upon last year’s finish.

    Young Team

The average age of this team a year ago was under 25 years old. The defense was really young and other than goalkeeper Brad Guzan who is 28 years old, there is not much experience. The good news is that all of the young players have another year of experience under their belt. You have to think that players like Ashley Westwood, Fabian Delph and Barry Bannan will be better this season.

    Newcomers

Manager Paul Lambert has added Jores Okore, Leandro Bacuna, Aleksander Tonev, Antonio Luna and Nicklas Helenius. All of these players are really young with Helenius possibly being the most talented.

    Premier League Betting Predictions

I think that with Benteke returning and with some of the newcomers, Aston Villa will be improved this season. I don’t think they can contend for a top five spot but I do think they can compete for a 10th place finish in 2013-2014.
