Napoli took out Manchester City in the group stage and they are very capable of beating Chelsea in the round of 16. Napoli has been exceptional at home in European action as they are unbeaten in their last 11 matches. The last foreign team to win at Napoli was Eintracht Frankfurt back in 1994.
Napoli vs. English Teams
There is not a lot of history to go on when it comes to Napoli playing English squads at home. In fact, this is just the third time that Napoli will be hosting an English team. Napoli played a scoreless draw against Liverpool in the Europa League group stage a couple of years ago and then Napoli beat Manchester City 2-1 in this year’s Champions League group stage. Edinson Cavani scored two goals in the win. Napoli also beat Villarreal 2-0 at home and they played to a 1-1 draw against Bayern Munich at home.
Chelsea in Italy
The Blues have not had much success in Italy in recent years as they have just one win in their last seven trips to Italy. They beat Lazio 4-0 back in 2003-2004. In the other six games they lost three times and played to a draw three times. Two years ago it was Chelsea losing 2-1 at Inter Milan in the round of 16.
Chelsea was able to win their group in the Champions League but they did it without getting a road win. They lost at Bayer 04 Leverkusen and played to draws at Valencia and KRC Genk. Chelsea has won two of three in the past against Serie A teams as they beat Juventus 3-2 on aggregate in 2008-2009 and Vicenza Calcio 3-2 on aggregate in 1997-1998.
