Marcos Ambrose is the favorite in NASCAR betting to win Sunday’s Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at the Glen. Since it is a road course race the three favorites are Ambrose, Tony Stewart and Juan Pablo Montoya. Stewart has owned Watkins Glen with five career wins and Ambrose has the best average finish. Montoya won last year’s race but it has not been a good year for him this season. Not to be left out is Jeff Gordon who has four career wins at the track and a total of nine wins on road courses.

    Kurt Busch +800

    Jeff Gordon +900

    Jimmie Johnson +900

    Kevin Harvick +1100

    Carl Edwards +1500

    Denny Hamlin +2000

    Jamie McMurray +2500

    Boris Said +3000

    Clint Bowyer +4000

    AJ Allmendinger +4000

    Greg Biffle +4000

    Paul Menard +4000

    Joey Logano +4000

    Field (Any other driver) +1500

There have been 28 Sprint Cup series races at the Glen and starting on the pole is important as 9 of the 28 races have been won from the pole. It is tough to pass on a road course which means qualifying is critical. 18 of the 28 race winners started in the Top Five. Tony Stewart has won at Watkins Glen a total of five times which leads all drivers. Stewart has an average finish of 5.4 in 12 starts. The numbers indicate that Marcos Ambrose has the best average finish at 2.6 but he has just three career starts at the Glen. Carl Edwards is next best followed by Mark Martin and AJ Allmendinger.

Last year it was Juan Pablo Montoya getting the win with Kurt Busch finishing second. Montoya led 74 of the 90 laps. It has not been a very good season for Montoya as he has just two Top 10 finishes in his last 15 races.

Pay attention to qualifying as anyone that starts outside of the top ten pretty much has to be thrown out as you bet on NASCAR while those starting in the top five have to be seriously considered to get the win.
