Predicting race winners in NASCAR betting this season has been difficult with 14 different drivers taking the checkered flag. Will that total rise to 15 this week at Michigan? Let’s take a look at Michigan 400 betting and the main contenders.
You can make a case for a lot of drivers this week to win at Michigan. There has been a different winner at the Michigan 400 in each of the past 14 years. Kevin Harvick won last year’s race while Brian Vickers won two years ago. Carl Edwards won in 2008 and it was Kurt Busch winning in 2007. Edwards is one of the favorites to win this time around as he is 7-1 in Michigan 400 betting odds at our online sportsbook. He is a co-favorite along with Jimmie Johnson and Kyle Busch. Denny Hamlin is the fourth choice at 8-1 while Jeff Gordon and Kurt Busch are 9-1. Jimmie Johnson may be one of the co-favorites in NASCAR odds this week but he has never won at Michigan in 19 tries.
If you are looking for another driver to win this week that has not hit victory lane then Tony Stewart would seem to be a good choice. He is listed at 13-1 to win this week and he badly needs a win to solidify his spot in the Chase.
Starting up front is not a necessity as the pole sitter has won just nine times in 41 races.
There have been five drivers who have picked up their first Sprint Cup win this year. Because of the new Chase format which rewards victories, drivers are more likely to take chances and gamble with pit strategy. Denny Hamlin won the race at Michigan back in June because of his pit strategy. The Chase is really heating up and wins are critical. The top 10 teams in points make the Chase and then the last two spots go to drivers who have the most wins and are also in the Top 29. Brad Keselowski is in the best spot as he has two wins. Hamlin is right on the bubble of making the chase so a second win would really help his chances. He has two wins, four top-fives and five top-10s in the past five races at Michigan.
