If it seems like it has been a while since MMA odds were on the board for a Strikeforce event, it has. The last Strikeforce event was in early January and the next one won’t be until early March. What does the future hold for Strikeforce and are any of their fighters coming to the UFC?
Strikeforce GP Final
The next event in Strikeforce takes place on March 3rd as Josh Barnett battles Daniel Cormier while Meisha Tate takes on Ronda Rousey. MMA odds are on the board at BetDSI Sportsbook right now for both of those two fights.
The Future of Strikeforce
If you think that Strikeforce is going to be totally absorbed into the UFC then you might want to think again. Although Zuffa does own both UFC and Strikeforce there are no plans for the two to merge but that doesn’t mean you won’t see crossovers. The UFC already took three of Strikeforce’s champions and moved them to the UFC and they combined the heavyweight division in the Strikeforce with the UFC. There are a few fighters who could make it in UFC like champion Luke Rockhold but some of the UFC fighters have already said that they don’t even know most of the fighters in Strikeforce and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson said that going to Strikeforce is a big step down. In the MMA rankings that are on our site, there is only one fighter from Strikeforce in the top five of any division and that is Gilbert Melendez in the lightweight division.
Zuffa renewed Strikeforce’s deal on Showtime so Strikeforce is still going to have events. UFC president Dana White wants the fighters in Strikeforce to start getting more attention so it is not out of the question to see more of them start to cross over to UFC and vice versa. Rockhold may have said it best when he talked about the crossover possibility. "I don't think I'm stuck in Strikeforce. I love Strikeforce," said Rockhold. "I just want the fans and media to be able to see past the UFC and believe in us. There's no better way to do that than bring over a proven fighter from the UFC.”
