Canadiens Still Alive
A couple of weeks ago the Montreal Canadiens were all but dead and buried in the Eastern Conference playoff race. What a difference a couple of weeks can make. The Canadiens won four straight games heading into Monday’s game against Carolina. Montreal was within seven points of a playoff spot going into Monday’s game. The Canadiens still don’t have much margin for error as they will probably need 90 points or more to reach the playoffs. The way that the Maple Leafs and Senators are collapsing, you have to think Montreal has a chance.
Carey Price Leading the Way
The Canadiens are getting outstanding goaltending from Carey Price. He stopped 32 shots on Saturday against Toronto in a 5-0 shutout. He was so good on Saturday night that winger Max Pacioretty didn’t think he would give up anything. "I actually said to someone on the bench he looks so calm out there right now I don't think they're going to score a goal," Pacioretty said. "Good thing I didn't jinx him. It's definitely motivating when he's playing like that because you want to win it for him and you want to give him the shutout."
This is a big week for Montreal as they had Carolina on Monday and then Boston at home on Wednesday. The Canadiens are at Buffalo on Friday and then they host New Jersey on Sunday. It could be that the Canadiens can make up even more ground this week.
Boston-Montreal Trends
The Bruins have won 7 of the last 10 in the series against Montreal. This has been a home team series though as Montreal has won six of the last ten at home against Boston. Two of the last three went under the NHL betting total.
