Stanley Cup Odds: The Philadelphia Flyers and New York Rangers know each other very well but surprisingly, they have not met in the Stanley Cup playoffs since 1997. The New York Rangers finished two points in front of the Philadelphia Flyers this season so they will have the home ice advantage for this seven-game series that begins on Thursday. Home ice could be critical in this series as the Philadelphia Flyers have not won a game in New York since 2011. Here is a look at the series, NHL playoff odds available at BetDSI sportsbook and Stanley Cup predictions.

Stanley Cup Playoff Odds: The St. Louis Blues host the Chicago Blackhawks in a best-of-seven game series that starts on Thursday. The St. Louis Blues have the home ice edge for the series but the odds for which team will win the series are basically even. The St. Louis Blues finished with 111 points this season while the Chicago Blackhawks finished with 107. The St. Louis Blues did not play well down the stretch though as they lost their last six games and now they have a tough matchup against the defending Stanley Cup champs. NHL bets: With the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks, the 2012 Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings, along with such deep and loaded power teams as the San Jose Sharks, Anaheim Ducks, St. Louis Blues, and upstart Colorado Avalanche the Western Conference offers a highly competitive brand of playoff hockey that will be intense, physical, and mesmerizing for fans and gamblers while providing a genuine handicapping challenge.

  • 2BetDSI.com

NHL odds: While the Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins are the established powers of the NHL Eastern Conference and favored to make the run to the 2014 Stanley Cup Final the Detroit Red Wings and Columbus Blue Jackets have proven to be resilient, plucky, and potentially good board values for the 2014 Eastern Conference playoffs. Meanwhile what makes the Montreal Canadiens different, smaller size and greater speed could prove to be what makes the Montreal Canadiens great!

  • 2BetDSI.com

NHL Lines: The Philadelphia Flyers had a disastrous start to their season with just 1 win in their first 8 games as head coach Peter Laviolette was fired after three games and new coach Craig Berube needed time to implement his system. Yet one man never lost faith as the Flyers team captain and leading scorer Claude Giroux proclaimed at the depths of the crisis that the Flyers would be playoff bound. And so they are, and with a strong second half of the season performance that has gamblers and fans thinking that they can go all the way to their first Stanley Cup championship since 1975!

NHL bets: When it comes to Stanley Cup playoff hockey if you do not have goaltending you do not have a chance. That is countered by the fact that if you do have goaltending you have a bona fide chance to go all the way to the Final. That fact of life is what makes the New York Rangers a legitimate threat to hoist Lord Stanley’s Cup come the end of June as netminder Henrik Lundqvist is as good as anyone in the game.

NHL bets: Last year the Pittsburgh Penguins entered the Stanley Cup playoffs as the team to beat and heavy favorite on the BetDSI betting board but suffered an epic crisis and eventual collapse in the Eastern Conference Finals as the Boston Bruins brought out the broom to sweep the Penguins out of the post season as Pittsburgh goalie Marc Andre Fleury was benched after a horrific post season that had him on the couch getting counseling in the offseason. Although the Penguins had a solid regular season as the runaway winner of the Metropolitan Division the true test for Fleury and the Pens comes now.

  • 2BetDSI.com

NHL odds: The Tampa Bay Lighting have gone through the 3 month absence of their top scoring threat and best player, Steven Stamkos, and the petulant tantrum and eventual trade of long time captain Martin St. Louis, who felt slighted by Tampa Bay general manager Steve Yzerman, for not being an original pick for Team Canada’s Olympic squad to make the Stanley Cup playoffs as head coach Jon Cooper has proven to be one of the best young bench leaders in the game. But now the Bolts are facing the uncertain status of G Ben Bishop, who was held out of the last week of the regular season due to an upper body issue.

  • 2BetDSI.com

NHL Lines: In the conversation of who is the top team in the Eastern Conference the Boston Bruins immediately get the most calls with the Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Rangers, and Philadelphia Flyers getting honorable mention but the one team that gamblers should ignore at their peril is the Montreal Canadiens, who have been one of the top teams in the National Hockey League. Montreal is smaller than most teams but also quicker and that is what makes them an attractive contrarian bet to win the 2014 Stanley Cup.

  • 2BetDSI.com

NHL bets: The Boston Bruins were within a couple of minutes of forcing a game 7 in the Stanley Cup Final last year before allowing 2 late goals to the Chicago Blackhawks in a stunning collapse on home ice which stings Bruin fans and gamblers to this day. The Bruins have been on a quest to get back to the Final for 2014 and finish the job off with a second Stanley Cup in four years. Boston in deep, plays “heavy,” and has the world class goaltending of Tuukka Rask to make for a bona fide favorite to win the Cup.

  • 2BetDSI.com

NHL bets: The Minnesota Wild are not the most talented or deep team in the Stanley Cup playoffs but they must rank with the Detroit Red Wings and Pittsburgh Penguins as among the most resilient teams in the post season. Head coach Mike Yeo rarely gets touted as being in the same level of coaches such as Mike Babcock of the Red Wings but he has engineered an outstanding performance in getting the Wild past the loss of their top two goaltenders and key injuries to several top producers on offense throughout the season and into the playoffs for the second straight season.

  • 2BetDSI.com

NHL bets: If there is one team in the National Hockey League that NOBODY wants to deal with it is the Los Angeles Kings, who followed their 2012 Stanley Cup championship with a Final Four appearance last year in which they were eliminated by the eventual Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks. The Kings are deep and play the “heavy” type of hockey that is perfectly suited for the post season and boast perhaps the best goalie on the planet in Jonathan Quick. It all adds up to a team that has a legitimate chance of hoisting Lord Stanley’s Cup!

  • 2BetDSI.com

NHL bets: Each year the San Jose Sharks are one of the top regular season teams in the National Hockey League but each year they fall short in the Stanley Cup playoffs due to their inability to win on the road, shut down opponents, and get a clutch save in goal when needed most. But the Sharks consistent winning ways in the regular season and the way they took the Los Angeles Kings to a full 7 game series last year are reasons for Sharks fans to believe that Lord Stanley may yet find his way to San Jose.

  • 2BetDSI.com

NHL odds: The Anaheim Ducks are one of the most entertaining and exciting teams to watch in the National Hockey League with a high octane offense that keeps the lamp lit early, often, and bright but that style does not translate into guaranteed success in the Stanley Cup Playoffs in which the best teams generally shut down opponents and score off defensive turnovers. But with their dominant success in the regular season the Ducks cannot be blown off but also cannot be a team to load up on, at least until they prove they can handle the pressure of the playoffs.

  • 2BetDSI.com

NHL Lines: The defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks are a justifiable top tier favorite to repeat as Stanley Cup champions but that does not mean that it is a lock or that it will be easy. The Blackhawks boast one of the most potent offensive attacks in the NHL but their defense has not shown depth or the consistent ability to consistently shut down opponents. C Jonathan “Captain Serious” Toews and RW Patrick Kane were out with injuries to end the regular season but are expected to be 100% for the playoffs, which is mandatory if the Hawks are to repeat.

NHL bets: My, what a difference a year makes! With first year head coach Patrick Roy behind the bench the Colorado Avalanche have been transformed into an instant contender that can play with swagger and excitement that can challenge the top teams in the NHL. The Avs may also have the advantage of being so young that they don’t realize the pressure of the Stanley Cup Playoffs and can therefore play loose and with “house money” as they were not expected to make the post season.
