Handicapping college hockey odds has been an exciting challenge so far this season as there have been some notable powers that have maintained elite status while others have fallen. At the same time there have been some teams that have emerged into prominence out of nowhere.
Air Force opened with a 9-4-2 mark and led the Atlantic Hockey with a mark of 8-2-1. Coach Frank Serratore has a career mark at Air Force of under .500 but his team has been solid in recent years with four NCAA bids in the past 5 seasons. Serratore struggled early on to build the program when he took over in 1997 but his plan has finally hit fruition. Kyle De Laurell has been a major asset with 11 goals and 11 assists this season.
Ohio State has been no surprise as a winner against the college hockey betting odds as they are a perennially tough team and opened with a record of 12-3-1 while having a league record in the CCHA of 9-2-1. Coach Mark Osiecki is in his 2nd season at Columbus and has quickly jumpstarted the program. Chris Cane has 9 goals and 8 assists to lead the Buckeyes while Danny Dries has 10 goals to start the season.
Boston College is another perennial power that is off to a great start in Hockey East with a record of 11-5 and 8-3 in the conference. Chris Kreider has 12goals and 9 assists to lead the Golden Eagles and coach Jerry York is among the most respected in the game.
It’s never a surprise when the Minnesota Golden Gophers dominate the WCHA as that is an expectation. Minnesota was 13-4-1 and 10-2 in the conference with one of the nation’s top scorers in Nick Bjugstad who had 15 goals and 11 assists. Erik Haula has 9 goals and 13 assists while Kyle Rau added 11 goals and 8 assists. Coach Don Luchia has struggled of late as the Gophers have missed the NCAA the past three years but this season looks to be a near lock.
The big surprise in a negative way in college hockey betting at the sportsbook has been the Wisconsin Badgers as they opened with a mark of just 7-8-1and 4-7-1 in WCHA. Coach Mike Eaves has won a national title at UW and should right the ship soon.
