This week’s event on the PGA Tour is the Humana Challenge which was formerly known as the Bob Hope Classic. It is the first event of the season on the mainland as players finally get out of Hawaii. It should be a great tournament with top players like Phil Mickelson, Matt Kuchar and Dustin Johnson in the field. Here is a look at Humana Challenge golf odds and a preview of the tournament.
There are a lot of changes to this event from last year from the name to the format. This was Bob Hope’s event but now it will be Humana and former president Bill Clinton who are the main sponsors. The tournament has also been shortened from the 90-hole tournament to a traditional 72-hole event. And finally we will just get the pros on Sunday in the final round instead of making the entire event a pro-am. The tournament will be played on Palmer Private at PGA West, PGA West's Nicklaus Private and La Quinta Country Club. All of the courses are par 72s and about as easy as you will see on the PGA Tour. Scoring this week is going to be really easy.
Favorites
There are four golfers who stand out as the favorites this week in golf betting at the sportsbook. They are Matt Kuchar, Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and Bill Haas. Kuchar tied for second two years ago in this tournament and tied for 7th last year. Mickelson is the all-time money leader in the event with wins in 2002 and 2004. He hasn’t played the event in four years but he could be a threat. Johnson is probably overvalued but he has the length to make this course even easier than it already is. The best value among the favorites is on Bill Haas. He won the tournament two years ago and lost in a playoff last year. He has 20 straight rounds in the 60’s in this event.
Longshot
When we look at longshots we really want to get at least 20-1 or more as more often than not they won’t win. Players are longshots for a reason but on the PGA Tour they always have a chance. This week we’ll look at Brian Gay who is 22.5-1 in Humana Challenge golf odds. He tied for fifth last year and led the field in fairways hit and was third in putting.
