Golf Betting - Accenture Match Play Championship

World #1 Luke Donald will look to defend his Accenture Match Play Championship this week in Arizona. 64 of the world’s best golfers will square off in match play this week in an NCAA Tournament type format. Golf betting odds will be on the board at Diamond Sportsbook for this exciting tournament.

    Mickelson Not Playing

Not all of the world’s top players will be playing this week as Phil Mickelson has decided to skip the event. "I'm going to end up missing the Match Play this year as we're going to go on a family trip," Mickelson said. The other player in the Top 50 who might miss is Paul Casey. He has been dealing with an injury but is still hoping to play.

    Match Play

The top 64 players in the world are matched up in a bracket style format similar to what you see in the NCAA Tournament. There are four brackets with golfers seeded 1 through 16. Winning golfers advance while losers are done. All of the matches until the final match are 18 holes with the final match being played over 36 holes. There is also a third-place match between the losers of the semifinals.

    Tournament Schedule

The tournament begins on Wednesday with first round matches that will be shown live on The Golf Channel. Thursday will be second round matches, also on The Golf Channel. Third round matches are on Friday, also on The Golf Channel. The quarterfinals on Saturday will be televised on The Golf Channel and NBC while the semifinals on Sunday will be on The Golf Channel with the final and consolation matches on NBC.

Last year it was Luke Donald beating Martin Kaymer in the final. Two years ago it was Ian Poulter defeating Paul Casey. Second place finishes are common for Casey in this event as he finished second in 2009 to Geoff Ogilvy.

Donald will be one of the favorites in golf betting odds along with world #2 Rory McIlroy, world #3 Lee Westwood and world #4 Martin Kaymer.
