World #1 Rory McIlroy is the favorite again this week in the BMW Championship with Tiger Woods a close second choice. McIlroy won last week’s Deutsche Bank Championship and now leads the FedExCup playoffs. Let’s look at this event that begins on Thursday and our picks.
Rory McIlroy 6-1
The top ranked player in the world was excellent last week and it is hard to make a case for going against him right now. He leads the PGA Tour in adjusted scoring and he has already proven he can go head to head with Tiger and beat him.
Tiger Woods 7-1
He finished third last week and was in contention the entire weekend. He simply wasn’t good enough to be McIlroy. Tiger’s driving is good enough for him to win but he still doesn’t make enough putts.
Dustin Johnson 13-1
You can make a case that Johnson should be right with Tiger as the second choice in this event. Johnson has played really well in recent weeks with a tie for third at The Barclays and a tie for fourth last week. He should be relaxed and ready to win this week after getting the news he is on the Ryder Cup team.
I will take a shot with Johnson at 13-1. His length should be very helpful this week on the course at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana. I also will take a few longshots this week. Jason Dufner is listed at 20-1 while Keegan Bradley is 25-1. Both players were added to the Ryder Cup team this week by captain Davis Love III. Bradley was really good in the third round shooting a 63 last week. Dufner was in contention for most of the weekend as well but faltered in the final round. He has all the numbers though as he is sixth in total driving, fifth in greens in regulation and third in adjusted scoring. My big longshot this week in golf predictions is John Senden at 50-1. He is fourth on the PGA Tour in greens in regulation.
