The Hyundai Tournament of Champions is a winner’s only event but not every player who qualified made the trip to Hawaii. 28 of the 39 qualifiers are in the field including Simpson and Stricker. Let’s look at the main contenders who could win this week and a couple of longshots.
Webb Simpson 7.5-1
It is hard to go against Simpson as he was great a year ago as he led the PGA Tour in all-around and actual scoring average. This will be his first time at Kapalua but the course is easy and Simpson should be in contention all weekend.
Steve Stricker 7.5-1
He has been in the Top 10 the last three years at Kapalua but he may be a bit overvalued at these 2012 Hyundai Tournament of Champions odds. He was just 16th in the Chevron World Challenge.
Nick Watney 9-1
He is always in contention to win and he has experience here as he finished in a tie for 5th in 2008.
K.J. Choi 14-1
He finished last year with six straight finishes in the Top 20. He may be a little overvalued though at 14-1. Make sure and check out the BetDSI Twitter feed to keep current on the latest sports betting news.
Bill Haas 16-1
He is the defending FedExCup champion and is capable of starting off 2012 with a win. He was 8th last year in this event.
Bubba Watson 16-1
If he could just avoid big mistakes he would win more often. Last year in this event he made six double bogeys and tied for 25th.
Keegan Bradley 16-1
He was the Rookie of the Year last year and should be even better in 2012.
Gary Woodland 16-1
He is ultra consistent and has the game to really do well this weekend. Unlike some of the players we have already mentioned, Woodland has some nice value at 16-1.
Longshot
Our longshot golf pick this week is defending champion Jonathan Byrd. He has never finished worse than 15th and at 20-1 he has some value.
